Vice Minister Zhang Zhili met with Julio Salas Gutiérrez, Fisheries and Agriculture Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Tourism of Chile, in Beijing on Feb. 26. They exchanged views on advancing fishery cooperation between China and Chile.

Vice Minister Zhang emphasized that, to further implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, China stands ready to work with Chile to fully implement the key provisions outlined in the Joint Statement between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Chile regarding the enhancement of fishery cooperation. He hoped that the two sides would enhance cooperation across all sub-sectors along the industry chain of the fishery while strengthening the existing basis of cooperation.

Undersecretary Salas agreed with Vice Minister Zhang on deepening China–Chile fishery cooperation. He expressed Chile's hope to further bolster communication, exchange, and cooperation with China, thereby elevating China–Chile fishery cooperation to a new high.

The two sides reached consensus on several issues, including establishing a China–Chile fishery cooperation mechanism, signing a new memorandum of understanding on fishery cooperation, expanding cooperation across the entire distant-water fishery industry, jointly combating illegal fishing, and promoting the scientific conservation and sustainable utilization of international fishery resources.
