Symposia Held During Yang Yi’s Visit to Chinese Embassy in Brazil

Director-general Yang Yi led a delegation and paid a visit to the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brazil on October 19th. Li Jinzhang, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Consul General Song Yang, as well as Xia Xiaoling, Minister-Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office, met the delegation, and Yang exchanged with them information and opinions on the latest policies and progress of the “going global” strategy of Chinese agriculture and further China-Brazil cooperation in agriculture. The delegation also had two symposia with Chinese-funded enterprises and the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Brazilian industry associations respectively at the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office.

Li Jinzhang, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Consul General Song Yang, and Xia Xiaoling, Minister-Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office, met the delegation and exchanged ideas.

During the symposium with Chinese-funded enterprises,  the Brazilian subsidiary of COFCO, Long Ping Hi-Tech, Dakang Brasil Agro, BBCA Brazil Industrial&Investment Co., Ltd., Chongqing Grain Group's Universo Verde Co., Ltd., China Resources Dong’e Ejiao, and China Communications Construction South America Regional Company gave detailed introductions to the current progress of the agricultural projects in Brazil and relevant obstacles. Yang elaborated on the relevant background and policy measures of the “going global” strategy of Chinese agriculture from such 3 aspects as the development process, the significance and the measures of the strategy to offer guidance for Chinese-funded enterprises to carry out agricultural investment and cooperation in Brazil in the future. The symposium served as an effective platform for the delegation, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office and Chinese-funded enterprises to share ideas, thus laying a solid foundation for further China-Brazil agricultural investment and cooperation.

The delegation discussed with the Chinese-funded enterprises related to Brazilian agriculture and Yang introduced the background and policy measures of the “going global” strategy of Chinese agriculture.

Yang also had a symposium with representatives from the Brazilian government and industry associations, i.e., Deputy Director of the International Investment and Cooperation Promotion Department of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply, President of the Brazilian Soybean Production Association, CEO of the Brazilian Soybean Production Association, Secretary-General of the Brazilian Seed Association, Consultant of the Brazilian Agricultural Biotechnology Association and the International Relations Consultant of the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock and discussed such issues as soybean planting and the development of Brazilian agriculture, and China-Brazil trade and investment in agriculture produce in the context of China-US trade frictions. Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and industry associations said that Brazil attaches great importance to agricultural cooperation with China, and hopes to expand exports of agricultural products, soybean products in particular, to China against China-US trade frictions. Brazil also welcomes Chinese enterprises to come to Brazil and conduct agricultural investment and cooperation which focus on such fields as agricultural infrastructure, warehousing and logistics. Yang pointed out that the Chinese government highly values agricultural cooperation with Brazil as there is enormous potential for agricultural cooperation between the two countries in the future. Yang also stated that China and Brazil need to strengthen communication at the level of the Ministry of Agriculture and establish a platform offering effective information for China-funded enterprises to invest in Brazil. Yang also hoped the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and industry associations to provide Chinese enterprises with more facilities and support on the basis of providing a list of investment projects, thus bringing the agricultural cooperation between the two countries to a higher level.

The delegation had a symposium with representatives from the Brazilian government and industry associations, stressing that China and Brazil should further strengthen communication and build an effective platform to jointly improve bilateral agricultural cooperation.
